1.Shuck and Clean the Ears:3 min.

Strip away the outer green husks and pull off the fine sticky silks from each ear of corn. Rinse the shucked ears under cool running water, rubbing the kernels gently to dislodge any remaining silk strands.

2.Establish the Water Foundation:5 min.

Place a large, deep stockpot on your stovetop. Fill it with enough water to ensure the ears of corn will be completely submerged once added, leaving a few inches of clearance at the top. Turn the heat to high and bring to a rolling boil.

3.Infuse the Dairy Matrix:2 min.

Once the water reaches a stable boil, pour in the 1 cup of whole milk and drop in the 3 to 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Stir gently until the butter melts completely and integrates with the water. Allow the mixture to return to a gentle boil.

4.Submerge and Precision Boil:7-8 min.

Using kitchen tongs, carefully lower the prepared ears of corn into the bubbling liquid matrix one by one. Ensure the cobs are completely submerged. Boil uncovered for exactly 7 to 8 minutes—this precise timing softens the starches without toughening the kernels.

5.Extract and Season:2 min.

Use tongs to lift the hot corn out of the dairy bath, allowing excess liquid to drain back into the pot. Transfer the ears to a serving platter. Sprinkle immediately with a pinch of sea salt, black pepper, or chopped parsley and serve hot.

Serving and Preservation Tips

  • Serving Ideas: Serve hot alongside outdoor barbecue staples like grilled steaks, smoked ribs, or roasted chicken.

  • Storage Protocols: Leftover cooked ears can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Reheat gently in a 350°F (175°C) oven wrapped in foil with a pat of butter for 10 minutes, or slice the kernels off the cob to toss directly into salads and stir-fries.
